My school’s amazing assistant principal asked me if I’d like to go to AVID training over the summer. If you’re not familiar with AVID, it is a nonprofit organization that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. When schools partner with AVID, students are placed in college readiness classes designed to develop the skills needed to be successful in college.
While I was unable to attend the training, I am still very supportive of the AVID mission that our school is trying to implement. AVID places special emphasis on WICOR, which stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. I decided to create these AVID WICOR posters for my classroom because I will be focusing on these same strategies every day. And since sharing is caring, I’m giving away these free WICOR AVID classroom posters.
Even if you are not an AVID teacher, these are strategies that the most effective teachers implement. You probably use them already, but didn’t even know it!
These posters are available in two formats: 11×17 PDF files and 8×10 JPEG files. You can print the PDF files at home or at your local office print shop. OfficeDepot is my go-to print shop when my printer is low on ink. The best thing about printing at OfficeDepot is that you can print the 11×17 WICOR AVID posters for only 67cents each. Buying posters anywhere else would cost you up to 10 times as much. In addition, the JPEG files can be printed at home or a photo print shop. Walmart and Walgreens both have 1 hour service that you can use if you are in a rush.
I personally print on cardstock and use my laminator and these pouches for my 11×17 posters. That way I can use them again and again.
